How Does This Work?

I don’t know if you can help me, my house might be the worst you’ve ever seen…

How Does This Work?

There’s not a lot I haven’t seen in the last 12 years! I’m never shocked or intimidated by the environment, so if you are ready and willing to work with me, there is no clutter that can’t be tamed! And, I have a lot of tools in my kit to help you navigate the difficult decluttering decisions and stay motivated.

So many people beat themselves up because they haven’t been able to declutter or get organised on their own. It’s nothing to be ashamed about. Sometimes you just need someone to go through the process with you. Someone who is not a family member or friend. Someone who knows what they are doing and is kind, compassionate and non-judgemental.

At our first session I will ask you to take me on a tour of your home and we’ll talk about what’s working and what’s driving you crazy. We’ll brain storm some potential solutions, pick a starting point and get to work. Yes, that’s right. We will get to work! In my experience, working along side you will tell me more about your organising challenges than hours of chatting and planning. And over time, a sensible and sustainable plan will evolve.

Here’s some of the most common questions I get asked:

Will you come to my house?

I offer hands on help for people living in Melbourne and telephone/skype mentoring for those located outside of Melbourne.

Do I need to be present while the work is being carried out?

Yes. I can make your home look lovely but if you haven’t been involved in the process it’s not going to last. I need you to work with me in order to create systems that suit your lifestyle and tap into your strengths.

Will you do a quote/consultation/plan before we get started?

No. I used to but learned that the first session was too early to know my client well enough to create a sensible plan.  On more than one occasion, my well-intentioned plan became part of the clutter and left the client feeling like a failure because they were unable to execute it.

Will it be you that comes to my home?

Yes. All work is carried out by me personally and I only bring an assistant on site if you have specifically requested it.  If you need specialist cleaning services or rubbish removal I have trusted suppliers that I can recommend as well.

Do you have signage on your car?

No. I take discretion very seriously.  I don’t have car signage or wear a uniform. I’m happy to be your friend from book club or the gym if our work gets interrupted by a nosey neighbour or loved one!

Will you make me throw things away?

No. It’s your stuff.  I will make suggestions, and help you make decisions in line with your goals but the final decision of what to keep and what to let go of is always yours.

Can you sell items for me?

No.  I don’t sell unwanted goods on my clients’ behalf.  I can recommend ways to dispose of items and will sense check your plans to have a garage sale, sell items online, at auctions and markets. I will also take up to a car load of goods for donation to charity at the completion of each session.

What should I buy before our first session?

Nothing!  I will bring the tools and supplies we need.

How long do you think it will take?

It really comes down to how decisive you are and how quickly you’re prepared to work.  A spare bedroom that takes three hours for one person can take three days for another.

What if my house is the worst you’ve ever seen? I’m afraid you are going to judge me.

It’s not about me or how I think you should live. It’s all about creating a home that looks, feels and functions the way you want it to. My only exception to this rule is if I believe the clutter is putting you or your loved ones at risk and then we’ll talk about how to make your home safe. One of my clients said to me, “I thought you were going to be a Sargent Major but you are actually very nice”.
